Prince Philip traveled with the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1956 to Australia, Antarctica and more for a few months without Queen Elizabeth. He was closely involved in the design of this yacht. The Duke of Edinburgh called the long voyage a ″diplomatic mission″ and traveled forty thousand miles. The Duke became the first member of the British Royal Family to cross the Antarctic Circle.
